If you were involved in an UBER Accident or LYFT Accident you may find yourself asking: “[w]ho will pay for my injuries?” “[w]ill UBER cover my medical expenses” or “[d]oes LYFT have insurance to cover my damages”. In response to the growing number of car accidents involving UBER rides and LYFT rides, the State of California has mandatory insurance requirements for rideshare companies such as UBER and LYFT.
According to researchers, ridesharing services such as UBER and LYFT have contributed to the rise of fatal accidents. Business Insider.com shed light on this issue in late 2018.
“By 2010, just before the ride-hailing services began to expand en masse, the total number of traffic fatalities sank to 32,885 nationwide, the lowest number since 1949, according to government data. But once Uber and Lyft began aggressively expanding, the authors of a yet-to-be-published study have found, those fatal accidents began to slowly rise once again…. ‘The arrival of ridesharing is associated with an increase of 2-3% in the number of motor vehicle fatalities and fatal accidents’ researchers John Barrios of the University of Chicago along with Yael Hochberg and Livia Hanyi Yi of Rice University, write in a draft of their paper, which is in the preliminary stages of publication”https://www.businessinsider.com/uber-lyft-ride-hailing-increases-fatal-car-accidents-new-research-shows-2018-10
